Preparing for a session involves considering many details.
I usually record from my studio, so I must check the technological part, that is, that the microphone, computer and software are ready, up to date and working perfectly. I must do tests to verify that the audio levels are not saturated or low.
If it is a directed session, it is necessary to make the software configuration, either Source Connect that allows other studios to record the session, or place a common device ZOOM session ready for the client, creative or accounts are present.
The space is important and will depend on whether I should record standing or sitting, sometimes you get too excited and when you move your arms you can hit something and put noise to the recording.
Something important, although it may not seem so, is the clothes you wear when recording, it is necessary to use fabrics that do not make noise, remove accessories such as bracelets or necklaces (recording in pajamas is very favorable 🤭).
And on the technical side, it is necessary to warm up the voice, hydrate and do exercises so that all the muscles of the face are relaxed.
Prior to all this it is essential to know what you are going to record, have the text ready, revised, know the intention that the client wants, review your casting to locate what the client heard and if it is an audiobook, the preparation involves locating characters, look for words or names of foreign pronunciation, etc.,
Another time I will tell you more about what happens in a recording.
